Robin Uthappa Biodata:
Robin Uthappa Family Background:
Robbin Uthappa is one of the new and famous Indian cricket players. He is born on 11 November 1985 in Kodagu, Karnataka. Robin is son of Venu Uthappa, former international hockey player and current international hockey referee. Being form a sports family, he started his career in cricket. He made his tremendous performance in a very short span of time. His mother, Rosy, owns & runs a boutique in Bangalore. His family includes his sister Sharon, an executive.
Robin Uthappa’s Childhood:
Robin being from a sports family, had natural flair in sports since very young age. He played competitive tennis when he was about 7 or 8 years of age. He played hockey for his school and also for his state in the sub-junior category. But his coach advised him against playing hockey, fearing he might injure himself one day. As Robin Uthappa was already very good at cricket, his school coach Ghulam Samdhani asked him to concentrate on that game. In fact, Robin started playing cricket at the age of seven. He was so naturally talented a cricketer from the beginning itself.
Early Days in Cricket Career:
During the early days of his cricket(especially while representing his school team) Robin kept wickets. When he played for the State under-14, regular keeper fell ill, and Robin replaced him. Apart from that he is useful right arm medium pace bowler.. But Robin was clear that he is primarily a batsman and can keep wickets if there is an urgent need(in fact that’s exactly what happened with his famous idol, Rahul Dravid, who kept wickets for Indian cricket team for long time).
For someone who picked up the passion for the game right from the tender age of nine, recognition has come as selection for coaching in Australia under Border-Gavaskar scholarship scheme. That was a great reward for perseverance for this humble lad from Karnataka. Right from the days he spent at the Brijesh Patel cricket academy, Robin was touted to be a bright prospect and he has been growing from strength to strength over the years. He graduated from the Under-13's to the Under-16's and he represented the country - in the Under-19 World Cup, in Bangladesh 2004.
It was the tour to Emerald Island as part of the junior Indian team in 2002 that was decisive in his fledgling career. During the same year, he made his Ranji debut for Karnataka. In one of his interview he mentioned, "It was a great experience to play with seniors like Jack (Karnataka skipper J Arun Kumar) Venkatesh Prasad and Sunil Joshi. They were very co-operative and made me feel comfortable and counted me as one amongst them".
Robin Uthappa becoming part of Indian Cricket Team:
As a batsman he has always been attractive to watch, hard-hitting, with every shot in the book, unafraid to hit the ball in the air. If anything it is his temperament that has come under question and stopped him from claiming higher honours thus far. A useful member of the India under-19 team that won the Asia Cup, Uthappa first caught the eye when he made a brilliant 66 in a losing cause for India B against India A in the Challenger Trophy in Mumbai in 2005 against an attack that included Zaheer Khan, Murali Kartik and RP Singh. But it was in the subsequent edition of the same tournament, in Mohali in 2006, where he cracked a matchwinning 93-ball 100 for India B against an India A team that had seen a ton from VVS Laxman, that Uthappa really arrived in the big league. It won him a place instead of Virender Sehwag in the final one-dayer against England early in 2006 at Indore, India and he had a successful debut, making 86 as an opening batsman before being run out. It was the highest score for any Indian debutant in a limited overs match. His next two outings were less spectacular, he was out of the team.
Robin Uthappa recalled to Indian Team:
He was recalled to the ODI side in January 2007 for the series against the West Indies where he smashed a 70 from just 41 balls. He was selected in the 15 member squad of the Indian Cricket team for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 to be held in West Indies in this March-April.
Uthappa has so far played some good innings in the international cricket. But the crucial knock he played against England in the 6th ODI match(on 5th Sept 2007, in the Oval, England) could be one of his great performance in these early days of his career. He blasted icy-cool unbeaten 47 in just 33 balls. And this magnificent innings came at playing at number 6th position, where he never played all his career. He has shown that he has got a good temperament. This is the day when Uthappa had gone from being a passenger to a hero.
Robin Uthappa has lot more to offer to Indian cricket and to all his fans, and the time is on his side. We, from celebritiesprofile.info team wish him bright future in the coming years.

What Robin Uthappa Says ...
- When Uthappa was asked about his cricketing of idols - "Dravid is a class apart. You can always look upon him for guidance. It is amazing that an international player of his stature comes down and shares his thoughts with us. I also like Matthew Hayden and Steve Waugh. The way they take the fight to the opposition camp is tremendous."
---Tuesday, July 20 2004
- Robin's foray into cricket is indeed new to his Kodava community known for its flair for hockey. India's National Game does run in his family. Robin's father Venu Uthappa is a former hockey player, who now is a busy hockey umpire. Query him on his switch to cricket, and Robin lights up: "Cricket is my passion. I just love playing the game. And dad has always encouraged me ever since I started playing cricket when I was seven years old," he says.
