Chiranjeevi Biography:
Chiranjeevi Childhood:

Konidela Siva Sankara Vara Prasad (a.k.a. Chiranjeevi), the Megastar of Telugu film industry was born in a missionary hospital at Narsapuram, a village in the West Godavari district on 22nd August 1955. He was born to Shri.Venkat Rao and Smt.Anjani Devi. Chiranjeevi grew up in his native village with his grand parents, while his family was elsewhere because of his fathers occupation. The sense of discipline and hard working, which he still embraces, were introduced at a very young age in his life. The tough childhood he had being the eldest in his family has helped him to handle many such events of higher proportion with great expertise in the later stages of his life.

Vara Prasad’s(Chiranjeevi) Education:

Varaprasad’s education was nomadic accounting to his father Venkat Rao’s frequent transfers to Ongole, Bapatla, Chirala, Nellore etc, which didn’t really defer Vara Prasad as he gained a great friend circle wherever he was. Varaprasad is really fortunate for his father has constantly encouraged him after having discovered the undaunted liking of his son towards cultural activities. Varaprasad did his schooling in Nidadavolu, Gurajala, Ponnuru, Mangalagiri and Mogalturu. He also won first prize for his first performance as Parandamayya Panthulu. After high school, Varaprasad joined Bi.P.C in P.R.Sharma Jr. College at Ongole. Following that he finished his B.Com from Narasapur college.
After graduation, Varaprasad moved to Madras to seek a career in his chosen field of acting in the Film Industry. To get himself ready for the camera, he joined in a film institute. This was in 1977.

Chiranjeevi - Early Days in Cinema World:

Varaprasad was offered the lead role in the film Punaadi Raallu, produced by Sheikh Abdul Khadir in the direction of Raj Kumar, which has laid the foundation stone to the acting career of Vara Prasad as Chiranjeevi. Even though Punadi Raalu was his first movie, it was Pranam Kareedhu that was his first release. Pranam kareedhu directed by K Vasu was released on September 22nd, 1978. The second movie to release was Manavuri Pandavulu from which Chiranjeevi started gaining recognition as hero among the spectators.
In the beginning of his career, Chiranjeevi donned villain roles in films like Kukka Kaatuki Cheppu Debba, Kotthapeta Rowdi etc. His focused concentration in speedy dance movements, risky hair rising fights evoked immense response from the spectators.

Tieing knot with Surekha:

Chiranjeevi tied the wedding knot to Surekha, daughter of eminent yesteryear comedian Allu Ramalingayya, on 20th of February, 1980. The auspicious time was 11:50 AM. The couple is blessed with 2 daughters, Susmitha and Srija and a son, Ram Charan Teja.
And as Chiranjeevi becomes the most popular hero, he has lived a royal life, travelled widely from one country to another around the world almost every time in the delightful company of filmi celebreties who act, sing and dance with him. He acted in a lot of best movies to date and had been able to deliver splendid action-packed movies. With all these talents in him, it isn't a big surprise to know that he has been one of the highest paid movie actors in the Indian Film Industry. Be it actor, star or megastar - Chiranjeevi has been acknowledged as being one of the most successful actors in the history of the Telugu Motion Picture Industry. We, in our site(
www.celebritiesprofile.info), would like to highlight the remarkable work that this megastar has shared with the movie-going-public for the last 3 decades.

Chiranjeevi in the view of his Peers:

Chiranjeevi is hailed as the money-spinning machine and the new avatar of box-office collections. Even the messiah of box office hits Amithab Bachchan wondered at the revenue some of Chiranjeevi films grossed in Andhra Pradesh and elsewhere. A self-made actor with no Godfather in the film industry, as in vogue these days, Chiranjeevi, can be rightly called the last of the titans of the Telugu tinsel world this century has produced.

Even his colleague and super star Akkineni Nagarjuna once said, There is only one numero uno hero in Telugu cinema and he is Chiranjeevi. Such is the awe of the man, whose main goal now is to live up to the expectations of his fans.

This is what Venkatesh who is considered second to none other than our own megastar has got to say about the speculation of Chiranjeevi political entrance- I would not like him to enter politics since then I would not have anybody in the industry to try and reach upon.

Chiranjeevi the last number one hero of telugu cinema by Mahesh babu.

Chiranjeevi - The Actor:

In spite of being the most sought after commercial star, Chiranjeevi, being a Film Institute product, had the urge to do off-beat roles. Time and again he has tried his hand at such roles in films such as Bharathi Raja's Aradhana, K Balachander's Rudraveena and K Viswanath's Swayamkrushi and Aapadbandhavudu. The last two films won him the best actor award from the Andhra Pradesh Government. Rudraveena got him the coveted Nargis Dutt national integration award at the Central Govt level. But except for Swayamkrushi which was a moderate success, the others failed at the box office.
Apart from the above artistic value movies, Chiranjeevi also did couple of strong message oriented movies in the form of Tagore and Stalin and both were blockbusters with more than 30 crores of revenue.
As Chiranjeevi is going to complete three decades into the telugu film industry and in all achievements and honors, there is no sign of pride but he is still going successfully with a string of hit films

Chiranjeevi Career:

After completing his Diploma in Acting in Chennai, Chiranjeevi got an offer to act in ‘Punadi Rallu’in 1978, But the movie got delayed. Producer-director T Kranti Kumar, who had seen his photograph gave him a role in the film, ‘Pranam Khareedu’. Subsequently, director Bapu signed him for ‘Manavoori Pandavulu’, where he first gained some recognition. With 'Mana Voori Paandavulu' running for 100 days, Chiranjeevi found the top slot in the hearts of his fans. His success started after his quite acclaimed role in 'Initilo Ramayy a Vidhilo Krishnayya' (1981). Since then no looking back for him. Most of his memorable characters are that of rough guys. Chiranjeevi is in Telugu movie industry from three decades, is still a favorite among the masses.

Early days in Film Industry:

Between 1978 and 1983 October (till the release of Khaidi) he had acted in about 60 movies, mostly in secondary roles, some as second hero, some as villain and some are character roles. The finest actor in Chiranjeevi came with memorable movies like,

  • Intlo Ramaiah veedilo Krishnaiah
  • Idi Katha Kaadu
  • Punnami Naagu
  • Manavuri Pandavulu
  • Nyayam Kaavali
  • Mogudu Kaavali
  • 47 Rojulu
  • Chattaniki Kallulevu
  • Subhalekha
  • Magamaharaju
  • Abhilasha

Chiranjeevi from ‘Megastar’ to ‘Supreme Hero’:

Second phase of Chiru career started with the release of Khaidi directed by A Kodandarami Reddy and produced by Thirupathi Reddy of Samyuktha movies. Khaidi movie is heavily inspired by Hollywood blockbuster First Blood. Khaidi movie opened new vistas in film- making and also created hundreds of fans associations for Chiranjeevi. And then there was no looking back. Says veteran producer D Ramanaidu: Even a Chiranjeevi flop can earn more revenue than any other hero blockbuster. In 1983, Khaidi was released. It was a history in the Tollywood and on that day onwards, there was no looking back for Chiranjeevi, the "Megastar", that he was, all of a sudden, transformed into a "Supreme Hero".
This phase has witnessed many remarkable movies in Chiranjeevi career.

  • Goonda
  • Adavi Donga
  • Donga Mogudu
  • Yamudiki Mogudu Aaradhana
  • Rudraveena
  • Challenge
  • Vijetha
  • Pasivadi Pranam
  • Athaku Yamudu Ammayiki Mogudu
  • Kondaveeti Donga

Chiranjeevi, the trend setter in ‘Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka sundari’:

The third phase started with the Mega hit Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka sundari directed by K Raghavendra Rao, a trend- setter in box office collections and continued until the industry hit of Gharana Mogudu. But then it is difficult for any star to live up to the expectations of the audience after such a massive hit. Chiranjeevi career took a nosedive with a row of not-so successful movies (which however did not bring any losses to the producers). Chiranjeevi went into hibernation and took respite from films in 1996. That was the first time in the actors’ career that no film was released in a calendar year. Some of the remarkable movies of Chiranjeevi in this phase are,

  • JVAS
  • Gangleader
  • Gharana Mogudu
  • Aaj Ka Gundaraj
  • Prathibandh
  • Rowdy Alludu
  • Aapadbandhavudu
  • Mutamesthri

Chiranjeevi Bouncing back to the top:

Came in 1997 and with it the Megastar had bounced back. But then the re-launch of the Megastar was not easy. A story that appeals to a cross section of the audience had to be found. The audiences perception was also changing with the advent of young heroes and filmmakers. Chiranjeevi himself became aware of this. He said, Of course, when a star attains a certain position, a lot is expected of him. If the story is good it will catch the eye. The image then becomes secondary. If the script is not up to the mark the film will flop no matter how well I act. Then came the offer to act in Editor Mohan’s Hitler, a remake of the Malayalam hit by the same title. And the gamble paid off. The film became a runaway hit. The audience and mainly his fans that grew along with him are now a matured lot.
They liked him as a strict but doting brother in the movie, followed by a young lecturer in Master. And the ailing industry breathed a sigh of relief, as the master had found his form once again with Mega hits, Bavagaaru Bagunnaara and Choodalani Vundi. Chiranjeevi is careful enough to see that a director directs each film he now accepts with whom he has not worked before. In these three decades, he has done about 143 films. His recent Industry blockbuster Indra has created history in the Telugu film industry by amassing a lump some amount of Rs 35 crore share at box office. Then comes another industry hit movie in the form of Tagore produced by Oscar films. The success saga continued till the latest release STALIN.

Chiru tells his fan association: " Among the many skilled performers who toil in front of the camera, only a few are excellent actors. A fewer still are those with the vague and elusive traits we call star quality. At the intersection of these groups is the most selected group of all, a tiny number among whom Chiranjeevi stands out. The reality is - i am an actor. My fans perceive me as a Megastar".
